Summary purpose of job


The India-based Library Assistant is responsible for the clerical and administrative duties for the department and for some of the online research.
To support the smooth provision of information to the editorial activities of the Economist Intelligence Unit and the broader Economist Group by:
    Carrying out daily online searches using Dialog Newsroom.
    Checking in the post using the Unicorn Library Management system and then distributing it to external and internal authors/editors.
    Dealing with the internal subscriptions to newspapers.
    Keeping records updated and to ensure that all filing and photocopy is done when and where necessary.


Key accountabilities
  •     Ensuring the quality of information provision and looking for ways in which this can be improved.
  •     To personally support the business by ensuring the smooth provision of information to the Company’s editorial activities.
  •     To manage the newspaper subscriptions process: prompt and accurate ordering and  distribution of newspapers.
  •     To maintain and update all the admin records promptly and thoroughly.
  •     To ensure that the daily online searches are compiled to the authors'/editors' requirements.
  •     To preserve the integrity of the Economist brand in line with its founding principles
Skills and capabilities profile
  •     A good general level of education
  •     Minimum of two years experience in an administration role
  •     Exposure to a library management system would be an advantage
  •     Experience of electronic delivery of information and comfortable with internet and intranets
  •     In-depth knowledge of research sources
  •     Confidence with information, software packages, databases and the internet
  •     Experience of Word and Excel packages
  •     Good keyboard skills
  •     Communication skills, both internal and external
  •     Analytical and problem solving skills
  •     Good organisation skills
  •     Skills in knowledge management
  •     Interest in world affairs, economics and politics
